What do you think is the key to a successful, lasting relationship or marriage?
According to StatisticBrain.com, the divorce rate is 3.4% per 1000 in the United States. Also, the current percent of black women married today is only 26%. I am single, but I do know that a great relationship that works can be more complicated, then it seems.
So, what is the key to making it last? Is it communication? It has been my experience that nothing weighs down a relationship more than not being sure what the other person is saying or even feeling. So how do you get there? Does being open and honest guarantee success?
Is it respect? I am always conscious of how I treat people. I think about how the other person feels, what their needs are, and what are their thoughts and wishes. But is that enough?
Is it loyalty? Loyalty is dedication and commitment to the well-being of your partner. I do not have any issues giving support, being devoted or even being faithful in my relationships. But is this enough?
I realize that every relationship is different. What I need in my relationship to make it last, may not even be on your radar or something that you even care about and vice versa. What works for you, may not work for me.
